Holding a BA from Spelman College, an MBA from Mercer University, and as the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Business from the University of Georgia, Dr. Vickie Cox Edmondson exemplifies the transformative power of education and perseverance.
Her professional journey began with notable positions in the business world at Procter and Gamble and United Airlines. She has taught at esteemed institutions such as University of Georgia, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Morehouse College, and Tuskegee University. Her appointments include serving as the first Associate Provost for Student Success at Morehouse College.
In her role as an educator, Dr. Cox Edmondson is a prolific writer and researcher. Her work has been published in esteemed academic journals and trade publications, and she has authored several impactful books, including The Thinking Strategist: Unleashing the Power of Strategic Management to Identify, Explore and Solve Problems which is now in its 2nd edition. Her research interests span a wide range of subjects, including strategic management, black entrepreneurship, business ethics, race and diversity issues in organizations, organizational change, and the critical voice. She has been cited in various media outlets including Black Enterprise, HR Briefing, The Black Capital Network, eHow, and Inventors Digest.
Dr. Vickie Cox Edmondson retired from UAB and her last day as a college professor was December 31, 2023. She is now moving on to her next chapter as the Director of Initiatives for the Seven Pearls Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
